What are the requirements and benefits of the Florida Basic Driver Improvement Program?
- Florida motorists may elect to take the Basic Driver Improvement (BDI) course to avoid points from a moving violation being added to their driving record. Individuals may take the BDI course once every twelve months, up to a maximum of five times in 10-year period.
- Motorists may also be required to attend a BDI course due to a court order, to fulfill a Traffic Collision Avoidance Course (TCAC) requirement, or to be eligible for an insurance discount.
- Before purchasing the course, visit the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicle website to review their current BDI driver requirements.
When will I get my certificate of completion?
- NSC is the only approved online defensive driving provider in Florida that allows you to complete training at your convenience on your personal computer and print your completion certificate immediately after you graduate! There is no additional charge.
How do I receive the point reduction?
- If you are taking the course for Traffic Collision Avoidance Course (TCAC) or point reduction, NSC is the only approved online defensive driving provider to automatically report your course completion information to Florida DHSMV immediately upon your successful completion. Your certificate of completion will also be immediately available to print from the website.
- In most cases, a student will be required to print out the certificate, sign it, and submit it to the specific county clerk of the court or other authoritative body to which he or she has been directed to report.
How do I receive an insurance discount?
- By completing this course, you may also qualify for an insurance rate reduction. Contact your insurance agent for more information.
- You are responsible for submitting the Certificate of Completion to your insurance company, who will apply the discount to your policy.
Do I have to take the course all at once?
- No, you can take the course in multiple visits to the site. The course bookmarks your progress when you exit. Upon returning to the course, you will be prompted to return to your bookmark.
How long does the course take to complete?
- The Florida DHSMV requires the course to provide a minimum of four hours of instruction. However, you can take the course in multiple visits to the site. The course bookmarks your progress when you exit, so you can return where you left off.
